Earl,
I have changed my mind.
It is this book : Fuzzy Tools for Data Mining and Knowledge
Discovery,
if you were going to comp me, that I would like most.
Obviously Fuzzy logic, to date, has not been able to demonstrate its worth
sufficiently enough
to have won the credibility of what must be a suspicious and practical
group, scientists.
The field of Data Mining however does hold the potential to demonstrate the
unique powers
of Fuzzy math.
When working through a set of rules, given by an expert, arguably there are
a number of valid
and roughly computationally equivalent methods for turning the rules and
antecedents into
consequent outcomes.
But automated discovery of the rules that underpin the workings of a system
(artificial learning)
is a process that is very reliant on the sort of flexibility and robustness
that Fuzzy mathematics
can bring to the table.
Control systems that learn their job on the job are the promise of fuzzy
learning (or Fuzzy data mining)
techniques.
I have produced a very rough beta attempt at such a learning system (rough
being complimentary) and I am
now into a further development to refine it. This stuff is very exciting
and rewarding (..............in a geeky sort of way).
When you devise a system that creates rules from an analysis of "raw" data
that is part of the
workings of a system you find that the proliferation of contradictory rules
is common place.
An analysis of the Irises database, for example, by many Data Mining methods
highlights that classification of
the plant by analysing basic measurements of its component parts is fraught
with contradiction.
All of those Crisp math systems tend to find it difficult to reconcile that
these real life contradictions can and do
co exist.
For those who are Fuzzy biased this is a great field (Data Mining) in which
to exercise the science.
anyway
Back to your book on the subject of Fuzzy and Data
Mining......................
if it is as informative as the one that introduced me to Fuzzy Logic in the
first place
"The Fuzzy Systems Handbook", then its addition to my library is keenly
anticipated
................ .[particularly if it is a comp ].
Could you write on the first page
"To my good buddy from down under for your contribution to Fuzzy math"
